All parents deserve to send their kids to a safe, supportive school in which they can succeed.

We're here to help.

As parents, we want to know that our kids attend a school in which they are challenged, nurtured, and loved. But finding the right school for your child can be hard.

New Schools for Alabama is here to help parents get the information they need and demand additional

options when necessary. Here are 4 steps parents can take to ensure that their school is right for their child:

Stay informed on school quality

Each year, the Alabama State Department of Education releases an A-F report card with a letter grade for each school and district in the state. The purpose is to inform parents on how well their school is performing. Use the map below to find your school's letter grade. Learn more about your school's letter grade here and here.

Understand your options

Until now, most parents have had no choice as to where their children go to school, and they've had no real way to influence the quality of that school. Today, however, parents in Alabama have options—they can demand charter schools. Here are a few things to know about what charter schools are and how they can help.

Connect with other parents

It takes a community to build new schools, so parents should connect with one another early and often and find experts to help rally the community. At New Schools for Alabama, we lean on the expertise of Black Alabamians for Education to lead this work. Contact them to find out more and learn about their Parent Advocacy Leaders (PALs) Training Program.

Get involved

Contact us to find opportunities to get involved and learn more about charter schools in Alabama. New Schools for Alabama provides group tours of charter schools in and around the state for community members looking to learn more. We can also connect you directly with Black Alabamians for Education if you are interested in joining the PALS Training Program.

School Performance Map

Use this map to find a school near you. In an effort to provide a simplified glance at the quality of each school, we have color-coded them based on the A-F letter grade they earned from the state. Letter grades reflect student performance on state tests, student improvement on state tests, and graduation rates where relevant.
