Two Alabama Public Charter Schools Among the Most Improved in the State!

LEAD Academy

At New Schools for Alabama, we believe every child deserves a high-quality education, and we're incredibly proud to see two of our outstanding public charter schools, LEAD Academy and Nixon Elementary, named among the most improved in the state for the 2022-23 school year!

This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our teachers, staff, and families who work tirelessly to create exceptional learning environments for all students.

Fifty Alabama schools, in total, are being recognized for their success on the state's school report cards, with twenty-five in the "Top 25" category and twenty-five demonstrating the most significant improvement. LEAD Academy and Nixon Elementary fall into the latter category, showcasing remarkable progress in their report card scores.

LEAD Academy, Montgomery's first charter school, boasts a C with a 16-point increase, while Nixon Elementary's score jumped by an impressive 13 points.

Both schools are living examples of the positive impact public charter schools can have on student outcomes.

This year's program saw all the "most improved" schools as newcomers, highlighting the potential for significant progress regardless of previous standing. While established schools like those in Mountain Brook and Vestavia Hills City districts maintained their positions in the "Top 25," it's the incredible strides made by LEAD Academy and Nixon Elementary that truly inspire.

This achievement is even more notable when considering the history of the Legislative School Performance Program. Established in 2012 but only funded in 2020, the program provides much-needed recognition and financial support to schools excelling in academic performance. The $250,000 annual allocation, awarded by the Alabama State Department of Education, demonstrates a commitment to celebrating and fostering educational excellence across the state.

The state board of education will formally recognize all fifty distinguished schools during their February 8th meeting in Montgomery. This event promises to be a celebration of dedication, innovation, and the boundless potential of Alabama's students.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to LEAD Academy and Nixon Elementary for their incredible accomplishment!

Their unwavering commitment to providing a high-quality education is an inspiration to us all. If you're interested in learning more about these exceptional schools or discovering other outstanding public charter options in Alabama, please visit the New Schools for Alabama website.
